The theme of boats, rowboats and sailboats is imbued in the youth of the artist from an early age. The various holiday spent along the Chilean coast, have left the testimony of maritime life and culture around the fishing villages.
Boats forms represents a complex subject through the challenges of perspective and their own regional anatomy, but they also reflect a character like a portrait.
Here, they are represented as the painting main subject mostly but also as complementary elements in a more diversified scene.
This collection is inspired by the artist’s many travels on Quebec coasts along the St. Lawrence River, the Maritime Provinces and the East coast.
In a classical vision, an impressionist atmosphere invades the painting, especially the brush strokes pattern but also the light composition.
Cristobal often paints in the plein-air, oil painting a priori but he also explores the drying speed of acrylics.
